However, my dad’s been driving for around 30 years and he makes sure to sleep and shower and he does his laundry and everything else like that because all of the truck stops happen to have all of that stuff available to them. In fact, I do IT work now, and I work at a lot of the pilots and flying J’s, and for example, one of the ones I just did in a remote town was fix a shower door so that way it made sure to lock and unlock properly with the code. That being said, I can guarantee fucking t. He’s going to be extremely pissed if they try to force him to drive 16 hours a day.
I started before that. I did some LTL and OTR driving. You could find showers and some washing machines, if they were working, to wash your clothes along the interstates, but get off the road any distance and that all went away. I always loved getting to Ohio because their wayside rest stops had free showers for truck drivers. A welcome relief from paying $5 to $8 dollars to take a shower. If you wanted a free shower, you had to buy enough fuel for that.
He might be pissed now about driving 16 hours, but I can guarantee that he did drive those hours at times back in the day.
That’s the cool part. You never could get those things. So don’t think this is anything new.
