Yup, my father drives semi’s hauling cargo, and he’s seen and told me of the number of horrific accidents that happen. We live in the same city and if he tells me of a recent accident he’s seen, it almost never is reported through the news, but that could be biased since I don’t search all of the news sites for it. But when a semi ploughs through a line of cars, killing several people on the freeway that were stopped from a previous accident ahead of them, I would expect to see it on most local stations…but it wasn’t. Similar accident with long team haulers, driver fell asleep at wheel hit another semi from behind, destroyed the truck killing both, my father said as he drove by the accident he could see body parts strewn along the road. So, so many stories.
PS all this has me extreme vigilant and paranoid when driving around semi’s on the freeway, especially those people who can’t pass a semi and just hang out next to them matching their speed when I’m trying to get around them too
Like any recurring events it’s boring reporting every deadly event in a city. Like suicides or school shooting. Next your going to want the wether to be news or sporting events to end every news show. Should they hire a different person to explain eather of these things.
Yeah. Nothing scares me more than trucks on the road. I’ve had close calls, heard about many close calls, seen them drive like shit thousands of times. I haven’t seen body parts myself but some of the accidents I’ve seen make me think they were not survivable. I’ve also known people who work on crashed trucks and the stories are pretty disturbing (amount of blood left in the truck, etc).
Trucks generally clog up the highway and it’s clear to me from the many times I’ve seen them ride side by side for miles, preventing anyone from passing them, that they communicate and see non commercial/smaller vehicles as being a problem to unite against. I’ve seen truly unhinged driving from truck drivers. I can sometimes feel for them because it’s gotta be a tough job, on the other hand they can easily kill me and I find myself wondering how much they think about that. We surely don’t need rules relaxed which help abate those kinds of driving problems. We need less trucks on the roads and a better rail system. It’s hard to imagine any of these needs being addressed in the US though. We cannot all even agree that law enforcement shouldn’t be murdering and disappearing US citizens right now… :(
Why do you think every other billboard on the interstate is for some lawyer suing truckers? Then trucker insurance goes up and they pass that expense on to shippers and everything gets more expensive. Businesses don’t care because everything’s is owned by the same private equities anyway - so the rich get richer.
Then we’ll be expected to ignore the immediate uptick in related accidents and fatalities
