And what’s the origin of that phrase?

And yes I am an old geezer, a slow one too.

Some clients for social media allow you to add tags to other users. Basically just a mark only you can see. That way if you encounter them again you know who you’re dealing with. Generally used negatively, to mark people you don’t like. Upgrading to blocked just means converting that into a full software block for whatever platform. Generally meaning you won’t see that user and they won’t see you again.

It generally only means the person doing the block won’t see the person who blocked them; the blocked person still sees the one who blocked them. Only some sites take it both ways. Lemmy isn’t one of them.

I am on Summit, how was I tagged as scary troll 😂 ?

I think it would be a useful feature

But it is PRIVATE right? Like only I can see it, right?

I think.l it is a nice feature for when I befriend someone here and I can add a tag explaining how we became friends. I have MCI, so the memory is fried (KFB)

This is not a Lemmy feature, it is an app feature. It is also available in piefed, and many piefed apps.

Unsure how the apps actually handle it, but more than likely, unless you are using piefed, in which case it is saved to your account.

Lol thanks. I’m more of a troll troller most of the time. You’ll typically find me replying to the most downvotes comment in a thread, telling them why they are dumb and shouldn’t comment. I do try to be helpful occasionally though.

So I sound dumb and a troll? Or are you sarcastic?

Also, this tag feature seems to be not related to Lemmy but rather Summit.

No, I wasn’t calling you dumb or a troll. Just saying that your tag for me might confuse you in the wild because I’m not normally engaging with nice people like yourself.

Another app that allows tagging users is Interstellar. The neat thing with Interstellar is it has built in comments consolidation with posts that are cross-posted or are link posts with the same link. Pretty neat because even on a piefed based instance consolidation doesn’t work if you’re not using the web UI.

Piefed supports tagging as part of the platform. It runs as part of Lemmy, but the instances use a different software like mbin does
