I bought an HP in March 2020 when my job went remote and HP bricked it remotely after only 100 pages because I wouldn’t sign up for their subscription program. Ended up trashing a perfectly good printer.
Luckily my library’s close by and I can print there remotely.
Bricking a functional ink cartridge you already paid for is actually insane though. This business model of theirs is completely amoral. Maybe OPs take on the situation isn’t 100% accurate and they should have said cartridge instead of printer but what HP is doing is not defensible.

Amoral means it is completely removed from a moral framework, immoral means knowingly doing bad things (often for personal gain).
