Sadly the screaming in our case was apparently attempted rape during a party 😬

I tried for a few months (invited a bunch of neighbours who didn’t know the group existed and so tripled its size), but people are extremely passive and unengaged. I don’t want 80% of group activity to be me 😅

this was hilarious 🤣 (never heard about that original jerk-off reaction either, fortunately it wasn’t a thing in Hungary)

We had one in the first building I lived in the UK, it was handy for gossip lol (“what was that screaming last night on the top floor?”). The address was posted on the entrance hall cork board. Ever since I moved from there, I wished that my subsequent buildings/neighbourhoods also had one, but even if one exists, it’s deathly silent for months at a time :/

Greater stability of this feature, maybe?
Lemmy may have significantly fewer features but in many ways it comes across as being significantly more polished .
Tbh that’s not surprising, looking at PieFed’s development priorities 😅 (emphasis mine)
Desired quality attributes
These attributes have been given a score out of 5 to indicate their importance.
- Performance 4/5
- Scalability 2/5
- Agility 5/5
- Reliability 1/5
- Security 2/5
- Testability 0/5
- Modifiability 5/5
- Affordability 5/5
- Manageability 5/5

Name them please, I’m desperate for ideas here.
Not sure if these are already addressed in PyLova, but some of my PieFed pain points are the notification page UI (namely the collapsed content previews and unintuitive mark as read buttons), and the lack of proper support for emoji (no shortcode suggestions like Lemmy/GitHub/etc. has, and the manual picker is unsearchable and missing many newer ones).

Not enforced by my work, but Photoshop is honestly the least painful to replace. I’m having a lot more trouble finding fully featured alternative to InDesign and Illustrator. Scribus looks pretty rough and Inkscape has an unintuitive UI and no proper CMYK support.

Need Adobe software for work. Want to play online games that have anti-cheat. Also like to run mods in my games.
I have a shitty old laptop for travelling that I’ll try to install Linux on this weekend, since I only need Firefox on that.

this sparks joy 😊

we fortunately never get any in Glasgow 🙏 Though I went to Loch Lomond when it was sunny a few weeks ago, and did my hike in record time bc whenever I wanted to sit down to rest a bit, some blood-sucking flies started circling around me 😅

Cold weather is all about actually dressing appropriately. Every person I’ve ever heard bitch and moan about it are never dressed appropriately. With the right clothing, you can be comfortable at most any low temperature (obviously, extremely low temperatures require specialized clothing/equipment).
This. I visited Helsinki for the first time last winter, and we arrived just after the peak of a cold wave (between -11 and -21°C day and night). We went with proper layers so we were all right, but the next day on the small free walking tour there was an Indian guy who was only wearing a thin jacket like I would wear around +5°C. The poor dude was shivering and visibly miserable the whole time, so the tour guide made sure to add a few more indoor stops than usual where he could thaw a bit.

definitely not the case in Scotland 😄

wow I never would have guessed if that was the artist’s point. From long grass my first association are velociraptors 🤣

Posts in a community called Funny are expected to be funny 😅

I don’t get it, what is the funny part?
Yeah, I’ve read too many Culture novels to put up with an “AI” that doesn’t actually understand anything, just pretends to. I would be willing to engage with an artificial mind, but not with a mindless autocomplete.
It’s like they invented the “mouth” of a potential future AGI, and call that AGI itself, while the brain is still missing.

I saw similar when looking for work as a graphic designer, with duties that can be summarised as “design our printed materials, build our website (with JavaScript knowledge required), and also plan our marketing strategy”.
Then when I mentioned this in a Clients from Hell comment section, I got someone defend the practice with that small companies can’t afford to hire separate people for the 3 separate skillsets…

Literally everyone is one accident, illness, or old age away from being disabled in some way.
yeah I was surprised to come across the statistic that in the UK about quarter of the population has some kind of disability (defined as “a physical or mental health condition or illness that has lasted or is expected to last 12 months or more, and which condition and/or illness reduces their ability to carry out day-to-day activities”)
Tbh I was conservative with that 80%. I’m a very private and introverted person, being the social butterfly of a group is just exhausting, esp. when there’s clearly no interest from others 🤷
