  • Its also funny that one could be lazy in a creative way and get more interesting results. Like do a poorly drawn doodle oneself and go with it or just combine some roalty free images to create something simple and funny.

We have after work parties couple times a year and they’ve started to use AI in their invitations while simple silly edited photo from previous party could have been much more personal and funnier to use.

Once saw advertisement for university near me on LinkedIn and they had used generative AI to create a photo of a smiling student near some trees. Instantly made me question the whole school as sure they could have just taken a photo of some students or teachers in their cafeteria or something.

  • And you are constantly putting words in my mouth because your arguments do not stand on their own. I’ve never claimed that you do not need to verify LLM outputs, infact I believe that paradox of automation will be one thing that’ll bite these companies in the ass most in coming years.

The fact that big tech is hijacking the term AI to sell their generative AI services does not make GOFAI any less AI that next token prediction systems. Sure my stance for AI may be too moderate here.

But if you truly hate all forms of AI better stop playing video games as they are often full of AI agents called NPC’s or bots. Better stop using internet search because not only are the web crawlers form of AI so can be knowledge graphs (reasoning) and search algorithms using machine learning.

My “hatred” is mostly directed against big tech and tech-bros trying to sell generative AI as solution for everything and by doing so irresponsibly damaging the enviromental, social and economic pillars of our society.

  • Moving goal posts? LLM can be used to dynamically convert natural language in to database queries, CLI commands, Goals with parameters for HTN and GOAP systems.

It can also be used to extract and transform information from natural language for use with symbolic systems like knowledge graphs or new rules for rule engine.

It can also be used to further develop and maintain existing symbolic systems and processes.

None of this is as exiting as “AGI” or LLM getting labeled as cyber weapon but more sane use cases for the technology than running expensive chatbots inside a loop to act as slot machines that may or may give you what you want.

  • Well they’re benefitting me and my colleagues greatly to develop enterprise integrations. It can search through framework documentation in seconds and guide on how to setup and configure consumer and producer endpoints.

It can also spit out working regex and utility methods in seconds and help spot bugs in code or analyze problems based on error logs.

I do not vibe-code or use AI agents but LLMs have improved the quality of my code plenty by providing sparring partner that I can bounce ideas around with for 24/7.

  • Maybe if you have limited understanding about A.I technologies and fail to intrepet what I actually said. Nowhere in my post did I mention anything about using LLMs in games.

Instead my claim is that Symbolic AI technologies that are also used in games are often more than enough for a lot of cases where one might want to automate something with AI. Technologies like HTN, rule-engines or knowledge graphs are order of magnitudes cheaper to run than LLM.

Now these technologies can benefit from LLMs in various ways for example enterprise applications and integrations.

  • The funny thing is that you absolutely can use LLMs to create or assist you to build new forms of automation and even symbolic AI systems.

These maybe more narrow / less general than agents but often more than enough for most tasks and problems. Best of all they’re often deterministic and very performant in comparison to LLMs.

Games have been using these for ages for NPCs but they’re not limited to those. Some examples: Utility system, hierarchical task networks, Goal oriented action planning, knowledge graphs and state machines.

Heck, need to translate or parse noisy, structured data like text, voice, images, video? Make the symbolic AI use self hosted lightweight LLM as a tool to translate it to symbolic form. No need for wasteful huge frontier models for that

  • PC is an open platform, consoles are not. If a data can be downloaded locally it can be backed up one way or another. You may need a crack to get around the DRM or reverse engineered private server to access some games but the options are there.

At some level this is also possible on many consoles but usually requires either emulation or modded console.

They’re actually not just licenses. When you download a game from steam you get the game data. You can back up this gamedata if you wish. Sure it will have steam DRM but thats something on can get around one way or another.

This is the power of open platform like PC

  • It varies but I would say typically around 25. Years 18-24 are still mostly spent coming to terms with adult responsibilities and unlearning oversimplified teenager worldviews.

Life altering events or lack of can influence this one way or the other. Like moving out, starting a relationship, having children or loss of someone close. (Literally anything that makes one re-evaluate ones values and thinking)

Like someone living with their spouse and 2 children at age of 25 will likely act more mature than say socially isolated NEET still living at their parents at age 30. (Not trying to shame with the latter, just pointing out how life experience outweighs age in this)

  • I don’t pre-order games nor do I really buy any games new.

I mean why should I when I can buy complete version of the game for like 10-20 bucks 1-3 years later. Honestly I’ve simply discarded the idea of being consumer and shifted to thinking myself as customer instead. Its not my job to support the developers and keep their studios afloat its their job by making good games that are actually worth their price tag.

I already have backlog of games that would take years clear thanks to steam sales, playstation plus and all sorts of bundle offers. I am in no hurry to buy new games and I can easily wait for the developers to actually finish the game and buy the GOTY/Ultimate/Definite edition that includes most if not all the expansions and dlc for a discounted price.

As for free 2 play and live service games I simply don’t have the time and interest to play those. If I ever make an exception to this then I’ll be using only default skins/cosmetics, no gatcha and ignoring the battle pass completely.
