I’d argue that the Fuck_AI crowd who slanders and also sexually harasses people are helping them. I hate this big tech companies just as much as they do. I’m not going to sexually harass someone I think is using their service though.

It’s worse than that. They’re not just pretending about their abilities for clout. They’re actively following their emotions and attacking people they don’t like with AI accusations or just plain old harassment. I’ve been sexually harassed by these assholes.

I would argue that they go hand in hand. It would be more nonsensical to be an anarchist who apologizes for capitalist constructs like intellectual property, and the idea that you need to pay or ask permission to someone to access or use pixels.

And that’s where the difference between liberalism and anarchism show. Intellectual Property isn’t real. Ethically training your own models in anarchist philosophy means not including CSAM, Revenge porn, or anything else disgusting like that, anything available is yours to use as you see fit.

Using other people’s copyrighted content is not theft anymore than pirating movies is theft. We aren’t here to serve other’s capitalist desires and fantasies. That includes paying for or asking for permission to use pixels.

There is nothing capitalist about rolling your own models which is what we do here, but hey. You just gave a great example of how anti-AI people don’t like to let reality get in the way of a good narrative.

Intellectual Property is not a consideration for anarchists. Maybe it is for liberals but anarchists do not often suffer from liberal thoughts. If we do we work to improve ourselves and stop having them.

The ironic thing is that people claim the Lemmy devs will do that to Lemmy. And here it’s Rimu doing it with Piefed.

I don’t agree, he’s had a history of being weirdly controlling and opinionated. Piefed’s codebase is a testament to that. @[email protected] already pointed out one such malicious change Rimu put in and then decided to add a toggle to when he got backlash for it. He did the thing where meme communities were marked low quality long before this recent drama ark of his.

I don’t think so, then again he hasn’t been okay for a while. Him making poor descisions about piefed and deleting users who are critical of him aren’t a new thing. They’re par for the course. People have criticized piefed for this for a while, but they’ve been dismissed as tankies or reactionaries. I admit I used to dismiss them as well. Not anymore though.

Maybe we need a meanwhile on piefed community to talk about drama related to Rimu’s flinging of mud and insults, as well as the many additions to piefed’s code which make it a much worse platform. It doesn’t get talked about much except in comment chains and Rimu controls most communities about piefed itself. So a community beyond his reach would probably be good.

That’s what he does when he doesn’t have anything he can say against you.
