Game consoles usually become cheaper in the years following their launch. Not so the PlayStation 5, which was launched in November 2020 for $399, but five and a half years later costs $599. This obviously has a drastic effect on sales.
No, there has never been a time when Nintendo, the cheapest option for a current gen console, has been $500, while the others start at $600. Considering the other current gen ones are 6 years old at that price, next gen will be even higher. People will keep buying them, of course, but everyone has their breaking point. I won’t be the only one.
I bought a replacement video card on 2019. It was replacing my 10 year old card. When I built my new PC, it was replacing a pc I begrudgingly installed win7 on. I have emulators from up to PS2. Pc gaming has crazy ROI.
They want us to pay an assload up front and also pay more for games and to play online compared to PC? This will probably be my last console.
It may be your last but this is the way it’s been for decades. People keep buying them.

…no one said anything about Nintendo?
Paying to play online is what got me off the consoles.
100$ per year x 10 years = a pretty decent pc. (At least until recently).
The PS4 is the last console I’ll ever own.
That was the Switch for me. Went PS3 -> Wii U -> Switch then when Nintendo started charging I stopped playing.
PCs are even more expensive, but the gaming value over time is huge, especially if you factor in 🏴☠️.
Well, when you add the cost of the console to the cost of the online subscription… Not sure the pc is all that much more expensive.
Also, just with Steam sales, the amount of money you save is pretty impressive.
Lastly, when that pc dies, my next pc will still be able to play all the games from the previous pc. Not quite the case with consoles.
All around, pc is a clear winner.
Did I mention I installed Bazzite? It rocks. Microslop gets to eat a bag of dicks and to me, that’s worth all the money in the world.
I’m referring to initial cost.
They’re not more expensive when you factor in lower game costs and zero subscriptions.

Seriously is. You can have whole console collections of Roms and they only take up a speck of your external hard drive. Glorious.
Depends on what PC you get.
With ram & gpu prices skyrocketing, todays gaming PCs will have a long life IMO.
I hope so, because I won’t be able to upgrade mine for a long time!
Also iirc they’re adding age verification for a bunch of online features, like chat. But not for the online store, because of course not :P
