In fairness, whoever decided that an apostrophe can indicate contraction and possession almost everywhere except in the extremely common usage of belonging to it, just wanted to be a contrary little bitch and give pedants something to feel smug about.
Doesn’t change the status quo though. Things mean what they mean at this point.
