The singer responded after a fan account tagged her in a post praising her recent fashion choices, claiming they preferred her current “feminine” looks over “those ‘trans’ looks aimed at a specific community”.

Goulding swiftly rejected the sentiment, replying: “Girl, no thank you. We don’t tolerate any anti LGBTQ+ in the fandom. I know you are better than this.”

I think this might be a regional euphemism thing. Like when Southern people say “Bless Their Heart” instead of “Fuck that guy”. “I know you’re are better than this” is a polite and inviting way of saying “No way you’re that ignorant”.

I like thinking of it as, “if you’re really not better than this, pretend you are because that’s embarrassing for you and all your friends”

I was just thinking about that… who cares about being positive to assholes? What even is that? Why do we always equate being mean to being wrong? To my mind it makes everyone intellectually lazy as fuck. Don’t worry about what is being said, just focus on who is being mean? This is how a lot of asshole “nice-wash” their reprehensible views with flowery langauge.

And in the end, being nice no matter what just comes off as passive aggressive, the coward’s way of being mean. Just my two cents.

Yeah, the whole “being civil” thing. Pisses me off to no end.

So if someone uses “civil” words to describe how [insert group of people] shouldn’t have rights, that’s fine. But when I call that person a fascist and tell him to fuck off, I’m the problem?

        Fuck off with that!

I mean being trans isn’t something you do, it’s just who you are. Makes this open bigotry even more egregious

Eeehhh… though I agree with the sentiment, I think differentiating that being trans isn’t a choice still very much matters, even in this context.

The choices that people refer to usually when it comes to gender lie more in how one chooses to present their innate self and what forms of care they choose to engage in to affirm that presentation (i.e. gender affirming presentations/care in this context).

Instead, hateful bigots, transphobes etc. mistake the choice of presentation of gender for the supposed “choice” of identity.

Trans people have to navigate a society that continually tells them they are lying to themselves and “choosing” to be someone society says they cannot be. This is genuinely tragic and horrible.

No one should ever be made to feel excluded or so alienated from the society they live in as to wish they were not the identity they know themselves innately to be. That is akin to effectively killing them, and that is why these hateful ideologies need to be put in the grave.

I’m right there with you overall. It comes down to “trans rights are human rights”.

Since that’s more than slogan, but a statement of a moral truth as well as one of solidarity, I figure it’s worth throwing into the conversation :)

So, I totally agree that it is vital at this point in time to point out that being trans isn’t a choice. Maybe in the future it won’t be necessary, and I hope I might get to see that before I escape life, but it is definitely needed in the world as it is.

I just felt it also useful to note that body autonomy is a core human right, and should anyone make a choice to go through the process of transition for reasons other than being trans, that choice is valid and it isn’t anyone’s business other than the person and medical professionals involved in their process. I just didn’t phrase it that way at the time

Well just wait and some dingus with a holy book will show up to explain how you’re doing life wrong.
