I heard that back in the days, people used to just go when their work was done on the farms and there was no concept of 9-5 (these days seem 24 hours work). There used to be a lot of holidays. Is that true? If it is, then given the abundance in technology, why our work hours increased and why do we have such weird lives that we live to work?

I guess I’m not historically or politically savvy enough or something to understand what you’re saying with this comment. Can you simplify in layman’s terms for me?
So after the Hitler regime got ended, there became two parts of Berlin. West Berlin was controlled by capitalists (I forgot the countries name, I guess it was England, France, and US) and East part was under USSR. There was a wall between these two parts. In West Berlin, the capitalism was practiced and in the East part, socialism.
That much I know, I guess I just don’t understand the relevance in terms of my comment or this discussion. Did East Berlin’s economy policy succeed and become the defacto western status quo? If not, isn’t this a non-sequitur to the conversation about the ills of capitalism and the loss of true freedom and agency. Unless I guess the point was “we’ve tried making other systems but they get torn down?”
