Doesn’t he produce his audio books with his own money or crowd funding to avoid lock-in with Amazon, Spotify, etc.?

  Yes, he does. And his audiobooks are intentionally not even available on Audible due to their mandatory DRM-policy and extreme market dominance:

Be nice. Don’t take anything personally. Take political debates to the appropriate communities. Take personal disagreements & arguments to private messages.
No advertising, brand promotion, or guerrilla marketing.
