Don’t rely on the data in a hard drive powered down for a long time being useable when you need it (mechanical or SSD, doesn’t matter, both will get corrupted much faster than you’d expect).
You want long term storage, use tape (most optical disks ain’t good either).
I’m too cheap for a safe deposit box, but I work in an office and keep a hard disk there. I have two identical ones. One at the office, one at home receiving backups. Every couple of months, swap them out.
