I do not think going backwards could ever work and is not in the nature of humanity. I think machine intelligence taking over layers of activity does not intrinsically need to mean people are devalued in the way one person helping another does not devalue them. Most of the power current employment has is in its wages. All technology is a human thing, AI once out of the box has the potential to be extremely powerful, probably ultimately more able than we are but again this need not devalue us in the way a child moving beyond the parent does not devalue the parent. But we do need to radically change society to accommodate it and also perhaps admit everything has its time. And we are perhaps moving beyond the time of our unquestioned intellectual dominance. It was always on the cards one way or another.
