Harriet Haller’s Records: For Madwomen Only

“Maya S. Trojan. My estrogen? Get it, get it? … Fuck you shut up then, I think your jokes are stupid too!”

I weave back and forth between silly goose and solarpunk socialist.

I’m just one big ball of fucked up and anxious and that’s OK.

  • Hastings also was asked about Netflix’s decision to remove an episode of “Patriot Act With Hasan Minhaj” in Saudi Arabia after the government threatened the company over a segment in which the comedian criticized Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (aka MBS) and the regime’s role in the murder of dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

“We’re not in the news business,” Hastings said. “We’re not trying to do ‘truth to power.’ We’re trying to entertain… We don’t feel bad about [pulling the ‘Patriot Act’ episode in Saudi Arabia] at all.”

  • “When people think you’re dying, they really, really listen to you,”

My main takeaway is always going to be that the people who are actually suffering are the only ones really willing to listen to others who are suffering. He thinks this, but he’s proof of otherwise, he isn’t really listening to any of them.

Ask me how I know after three years of cancer proving to me people could give fuck all about listening. Sorry, just grinds my gears, because the people “really, really listening to you” are the people who are fucking dying.

  • I thought the whole point of Fight Club was the narrator realizing he was a terrible person, with or without Tyler.

I mean the film starts with him exploiting dying people so they will listen to him. Not recognizing that the only people open to listen are those dying, and he’s exploiting their openness to lie to them and get the “crying” he needs. He doesn’t give one flying fuck about what is happening to any of those dying people, he only barely stands up for Bob.

Sometimes, though, they make more sense than they used to.

When I originally saw the Matrix in theaters, I fucking hated Cypher and his willingness to exchange the comforts of the Matrix over reality.

Now… Fuck, give me that steak, Agent Smith. I’m with Cypher, I’m not wasting my life saving all these jagoffs who would rather live in the fucking Matrix anyway. Can’t beat em, join em.

  • A lot of managed switches, a lot of ethernet cable, maybe some point-to-point WiFi connections for longer distances, and local DNS and DHCP servers that have failovers for redundancy. You technically don’t need a router because routers are for connecting different networks, and if it’s not connected to the internet, as long as you have local DHCP and DNS, you’re kind of golden for local services. You can even have internal TLS for local security. I do that with Caddy, it’s dead simple, and the certificates are locally generated for a 10 year period. I’m connected to the internet but I don’t expose any of these services to the internet, just my local network.

With a little more work, you could set up a VoIP server too so people could connect their phones that don’t have cellular service and use a VoIP app to be able to call anyone in the neighborhood by their VoIP number.
