  • Iran has shown that the United States needs NATO, and NATO needs the United States, more than ever. If Iranian Shaheeds and their manpeds / S300s are hitting US fighters and sneaking past defenses, who knows what more advanced or just sheer high scale weaponry could do, air superiority does not feel guaranteed.

A near peer (Russia) conflict would be ugly on a scale not seen since WWI, a true peer (China) conflict would unleash horrors we cannot imagine. We will all need each other, as NATO is a significant deterrent factor, which could actually save the lives of millions through deterrence, or shift the balance of warfare through increase manufacturing and safe zone output.

  • Agreed, but what I am getting at is trying to determine an absolute earliest possible start date. The pile cannot be older than the oldest object in it, so regardless of any other factors, you can at least determine X is the earliest possible start date, then you can use other details to reconstruct other pieces of data (aka the other objects in the pile)

obviously there will be a range of ages, but I’m just following the thread of the oldest object for a starting point, not as an absolute age for everything in the pile.

  • Hard to say, my reason for guessing older is that the pile appears to be in a fairly dense woodland area. In these types of situations materials do not break down as quickly as they would in direct sunlight, the boogie board on the bottom right leads me to believe the pile has at least partial sun exposure (or it blew from somewhere else / another pile with more sun).

I have seen a 90’s USA football sit exactly like that in a pile for years (5+) and still look relatively inflated, although I bet if you pick that ball up you will quickly realize it has little air and is largely held together by the structure of the material.

Love this game though, wish we could find a source of pictures like this where the dump date is definitively known, but obscured, so we could all test our hypothesis’s definitively.

  • yeah no sounds like a decent deal and you’re a kickass house mate to have, I also WFH so I have often wondered about how a roomate/housemate relationship would work from a business / financial perspective, appreciate the data point.

I feel your pain about the career aspect, also 15 years in my field and I have a spouse… So I get it - doubt I would of partnered up if I had been able to afford living expenses on my own. (I love my spouse and I am overall happy, I just think I may have made different choices in a different set of circumstances).
