You may not like polyester but it’s very inexpensive and can last quite a long time. It’s also very wrinkle resistant and stain resistant. I have had to toss a lot of cotton shirts because they get stained and I can’t get it out. Haven’t had that problem with polyester.
Idk I think this is similar to being against exploitative capitalism but also shopping at Walmart because you need to be able to eat.
How about we don’t compress our local Fricken wired video to our monitor. I swear I just want modern dumb VGA again - having to fight the auto smart crap is such a pita.
Vivaldi also does this well, and Opera before it back to at least 2001. XFCE opens the programs too but the programs themselves don’t remember state, even if gracefully closed by a normal reboot. Except Krusader which seems to remember my tabs from like 3 years ago and I have no idea how to get it to update.
Oh and 4k remains the bane of my existence with getting my shell to remember 2x scaling is stupid hard, and I have to launch special scripts to inject the 2x scaling in the launch options or environment variables. I should ask AI why my Alma 9 is being dumb.
This is the problem with Display Port / HDMI. VGA was so much better in a lot of ways. Video goes out, monitor displayed it or didn’t but no “you don’t have some special software to do a resolution”. None of the "oh I have to unplug it and replug it or reboot to wake the stupid video port up. You just plug in cable.
Display port is a bunch of annoying things that are unnecessary IMO and they refuse to fix.
Gas trucks suck fuel when towing too. It’s the nature of the task. The question mostly imo is - are you towing long distances? (well are you going long distances is a big EV question generally). If you’re towing stuff back from the hardware store then EV is fine for towing. If you’re doing some sort of small hauling job going hundreds of miles then not so much.
Where I end up is - how often generally are you towing? If it’s 2x a year or less - rent a truck and otherwise save craptons of money. I know - I have wasted 10k splitting a 2003 f250 with my sister to get a tractor home “and we would need to tow stuff semi regularly and renting from Enterprise was a PITA”. Yea sure - we used it for towing twice. Finally managed to sell it.
I think we tow more on a 8x10 landscape trailer for bringing lumber home etc and tow with my Outback and now Pilot than we tow with the 1500 we have for “bigger stuff”.
Though maybe that’s because we sort of stopped going to farm auctions…
I think it has plenty of reasons to not like it that are completely non political. The other stuff is just icing on the cake.

Do car preferences really matter that much? I remember Ford vs Chevy vs Foreign from the 80s and probably earlier - brand or model hate isn’t that new or special where I grew up. Is Texas that different?
It also depends on what we mean by “take issue”. I generally don’t think I have ever had a strong reaction to someone disliking any public figure. I can’t think of any public figures who don’t have some reason you could find to dislike them.
If they’re going to have some major argument about that then they do seem a bit odd to me.
You could also challenge it “looking cool”. Yes it’s a matter of taste, but you could try and encourage decent taste in your kids.

I know this is probably unpopular, but there is a youtube channel by a supposed nuclear power plant engineer that pointed out that our current radiation standards are not like any other standards. IIRC he said the current standards don’t set a given exposure level and simply say as low as reasonably possible. Which sounds great till you realize that what’s reasonably possible is a constantly lowering standard - what I mean is as tech gets better the standard is always stricter. Which sounds great, but in reality isn’t how we regulate (as far as I know) anything else - we set a safety level and politically revisit it as makes sense.
As I understand it - this would be like saying lightbulbs must use as little energy as reasonably possible for a given lumen output. This sounds good too - except that it means we never get to attain cost savings, or ever reach a “good enough” level. And this isn’t new installs, this is under legal and inspection threat that if you haven’t replaced your incandecents as soon as florescent came out, then replaced those with LED, then replaced those with more efficient LED basically as soon as it was available, constantly planning and replacing your otherwise working lightbulbs - you get huge fines.
And our radiation protections only apply to nuclear plants etc, yet I’ve widely seen reported that coal plants actually give off more radiation now, it’s just diffuse. So we’re not actually worried about radiation exposure in general. We’re also not comparing to background radiation …
Yea, it’s just that every one has something problematic IMO. So for say torrents cheap and available is worth more than an app I don’t have to use. I of course don’t know a about if say PIA is better or whatever.
IDK, I think we should be looking beyond Signal for these sorts of things. Signal is great for when the metadata doesn’t risk you, and when you control your device, but there are likely better options out there if the government is actually out to get you.
Personally, if I was worried enough about various tracking, I’d want to use the configs with known vetted third party FLOSS apps vs their own built app. For instance, one of the concerns with SurfShark in those sites is the app isn’t vetted and has some custom analytics. Using openVPN plus configs kills app level analytics.
IDK how much I ought to or should not trust any VPN provider, but for what I need, SurfShark has been great and pretty cheap, though for other reasons I’m a bit disappointed no port forwarding. I would use other tech than commercial VPNs for “deep” privacy.
I think we overuse dunning kruger. “useful” is very contextual. I would agree that for many people it would take some specific and dare I say unusual circumstances where learning another language is particularly useful to them. There’s some use in that you get a bit of a puzzle to overcome, you can potentially eventually get good enough to consume content in this other language (though one thing LLMs are pretty good at is translation), maybe you get a more direct exposure to Dovstoyestky (sp?). Cool and all, but probably not going to get them a better job or help them with most life tasks.
