Technology@lemmy.world•Pentax Discontinues Its Entire DSLR LineupEnglish
4·4 days agoI have a moto and the photos indeed do suck compared to my DSLR. But I’m a hobbyist, not a professional photographer. If I were taking pictures at an important event or something, yeah, I’d probably pack my DSLR for that. When it comes to day to day pictures, just capturing memories, it’s not worth it for me anymore.
I would love to get a mirrorless eventually though, seems like the best of both worlds.

Technology@lemmy.world•Pentax Discontinues Its Entire DSLR LineupEnglish
21·4 days agoI feel like things have been trending this way for a while now. DSLR is a lot clunkier than modern options like mirrorless. I own a decent one, but at this point, I’ll usually just shoot with my phone for convenience. Trying to hike or whatever with a big camera and lenses swinging around is a hassle.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Scalpers have hit the limited edition Ocarina of Time Switch PresaleEnglish
15·5 days agoIt sold out on the Nintendo store within a day. So stupid… I would have considered this, but the retail price was already pushing what I’d be willing to spend.
You’d think Nintendo would have a system in place to limit scalping, but I guess a sale is a sale to them.

Games@lemmy.world•Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake TrailerEnglish
31·5 days agoThey mention that you can run around some of the areas that were previously just backgrounds in the original, so I suspect there will be some new content there at least. And a some cool new UI elements and ocarina accessibility stuff has been added if you’re into that. Time will tell how similar it will be to the original, but either way, I’m feeling pretty excited for it!

92·5 days agoI mean you’re certainly entitled to not like the art style or buy the game…but this isn’t using UE5 nor does it look like a UE5 game in my opinion.

News@lemmy.world•‘Wasted effort’: Trade war blocks U.S. tourism groups from winning Canadian visitorsEnglish
71·7 days agoIt’s not just platitudes, it’s genuinely how I feel. If you think losing Canadian tourism will be the deciding factor that makes Americans wake up and vote Republicans out, I respectfully think that’s pretty naive. If the Epstein files, war in Iran, and complicity in Israeli genocide aren’t enough, then nothing is.

91·7 days agoWhether or not Trump remains in power, I have no intention of visiting America ever again. Greed, narcissism and misguided patriotism have destroyed the country, and it won’t be fixed in my lifetime. No thanks.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is everybody just struggling financially right now?English
11·10 days agoThis is me, except I don’t like my job either. Still, when I compare my situation to others in my city, it could be much worse.
And while I don’t have any retirement savings yet, I’m 35…if I can get that ball rolling soon, I’m hoping I’m not completely fucked.

Technology@lemmy.world•No AI until high school: NYC mayor Mamdani imposes 1 year ban on AI for schools through 8th gradeEnglish
81·10 days agoNah, I disagree. Let’s stop normalizing this “AI is here to stay, embrace it or get left behind” rhetoric. That argument only serves the people pushing the technology.
We don’t need AI, and I haven’t seen a compelling argument for supporting it yet. As far as I’m concerned, the sooner this bubble pops, the better.
Nice, enjoy!
If you’re newer to Sci Fi and want to try something really quick that’s a bit more disturbing, I’d also highly recommend ‘I Have No Mouth but I Must Scream’ by Harlan Ellison. It’s a short story, you could probably knock it out in like 30 minutes, but I love it.
Lesabendio by Paul Scheerbart comes to mind. But It’s not wtf in a disturbing sense like these books. More like ‘wtf am I reading?’ - it’s a really unique and imaginative early sci-fi book.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•TLDR; what helped you learn to use this site. -Just left Reddit because of the bots and this was an alternate blog like community. Any advice how to navigate this-English
36·11 days agoFirst of all, welcome! Here’s some tips I found to be helpful.
-
Browse by ‘all’ to find new communities. If you find a post you like there, check out the community and subscribe to it. It’s worth taking a look first to see how active it is too.
-
Once you have subscribed to some communities, I find your homepage is a better experience for every day browsing, since it’s catered to you. Try sorting by ‘hot’ to get newer posts. Toward the end of the day, I like switching to ‘top today’.
-
Don’t expect the fediverse to be the perfect Reddit replacement. Not as many people use it, and there are unfortunately fewer niche communities than there are subreddits. That said, it’s really what you make it. If you decide to stick around, make an effort to post yourself. It’s something I’m still working on myself, but every bit helps!
I actually prefer Lemmy to Reddit now, because it’s bloated with less bullshit, and I find the people (outside of a few communities) to be far more open-minded and less confrontational. Anyway, I hope you like it here!

8·30 days agoI’ve used Qobuz for years and have zero complaints.

Did people really dislike 3 that much? I’d heard it was pretty rough at launch, but I only jumped in around Reaper of Souls and had a blast with it. I’ll admit the writing was a little busted but I thought the gameplay loop was excellent.
I played through the campaign for 4, and while it had its moments, I couldn’t stick with it for longer than that. I think their biggest mistake was making it an online open world. If they go that direction with 5, any excitement I may have had otherwise will be dead on arrival.
