It was an open question. I’ve seen a good amount of owners of animals where the animal seemed to be more in a forced captivity aka they’re bolting out that door whenever they get a chance and not coming back.
Depends where you want to go. Some areas are kind of difficult to get to reasonably on foot or by bicycle and are definitely way too remote to justify a train station.
You think it’s reciprocated?

World News@lemmy.world•China’s Xi Touts Open-Source AI and Takes a Swipe at U.S. DominanceEnglish
22·2 days agoYes, I’m sure Chinese companies are losing countless millions out of their love for FOSS and this absolutely isn’t a strategy to stem the tide of investments into US AI companies.
To continually focus on what happened a century and a half ago in a totally different region of Africa than east Africa and to simultaneously be unable to speak about what is happening currently here feels like the conversation is being guided. Like if one speaks about the inhumane practices of the mines in Congo which are 80% owned by Chinese companies the conversation immediately shifts to something that happened in the past and/or some other region of Africa. It’s like we can’t even communicate about anyone having bad behavior in Africa except for America or an EU country. Clearly no country is anyone’s friend and for sure no one is friends with any African country. Just look at the media coverage of Gaza vs the coverage of the concurrent genocides in Africa, namely Sudan and Ethiopia. It’s absolute crickets in the global news. That’s to say Africa is just a fun talking point for people to feel better and not actually a place people care about.

Comic Strips@lemmy.world•When u make a silly joke on this platform [Smooth Dunk]

Rule of thumb is two days or two poops, that’s the time to shower.
I live in east Africa and for some reason people here have a focus on western slave trade and seem to mostly ignore middle eastern slave trade that’s still active to this day. There’s a strong anti-west focus and somehow bad things done by anyone else mostly gets ignored or if it is brought up then the conversation quickly shifts to what western powers have done. It’s almost as if it can’t be spoken about.
You’re better off getting better friends. Let them fade out of your life.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are good, viable self defense objects to carry on you at all times, besides a firearm?
3·4 days agoNumber one thing is knowing where and when not to be somewhere. If this is more so about a woman and avoiding a sexual abuse then literally having an object visible is a strong deterrent aka like an umbrella. Usually attackers will avoid everyone except for who they think is an easy target.
Pema Chodron’s Welcoming the Unwelcomed is good. So is nonviolent communication by Marshall Rosenberg.
You’re essentially making the argument that because some organizations and people have made poor choices in their endeavor to develop AI that the technology itself is the problem.
It’s like someone saying water is being gathered in immoral ways by some companies that are displacing native people and destroying natural habitat therefore water is bad. And you keep making this argument again and again.
Replace AI with addictive illegal substances and you got yourself a real winner
So tweaking a variable in one context isn’t the same as tweaking a variable in another? I simply don’t agree but it would be interesting to see why you feel that’s the case.
So you want me to spit out the proprietary algorithms adobe owns for you to know they are using algorithms for their software? Like you want to go through canny edge detection, singular value decomposition and convolutional neural network algorithms to be sure they’re both algorithms you could work through on paper?
Almost every single last processor around is deterministic aka you can work through the algorithm step by step by hand if you wanted.
Once again we are having two separate discussions and you keep trying to merge them into one discussion and tbh it’s getting annoying to parent you on this. You’re free to make the argument that particular actions by particular actors are bad and you’re free to make the argument NN are bad but you keep trying to conflate the two and it’s now childish since I’ve pointed out multiple times that it’s two separate discussions. Like Sam Altman isn’t literally chatGPT or the personification of neural networks, he is a dude separate from NN, you get?
Your final argument means any music, images, movies, or games processed on a computer in any way are not of any interest so essentially everything since 2000. You know your comments are being processed by a logic machine right?
We’re literally communicating to one another through many levels of logic processing from your input device to the screen, operating system, to the entire internet and servers between you and I and you say you’re disinterested. I call bullshit. If you’re that disinterested stop using anything that processes algorithms for you, no electronic or mechanical computers whatsoever DS.
Anyways I’m now assuming you’re just straight trolling and wasting my time with pure nonsense.
I literally brought up alpha fold for that exact point. Anyways, I can see you are anti-neural networks no matter what from your history. Are there any other families of algorithms you are prejudiced towards or is that the one and only?

As someone who has worked in a grocery store. Absolutely no one who noticed it cared unless you came in like 5minutes before closing, take 20+ minutes walking around and then walk out without buying anything, now that would be annoying as fuck.
