The Jungle

How dare you impugn the journalistic integrity of Reporta Lotte.

In many parts of the US, it means neckbeards even angrier at Obama as they fill up their dodge rams and drive every bit as much as ever, unfortunately.

Oh, no. That project was put on hold. The environmental impact study determined that it would cause Chicks and Ducks and Geese to scurry.

Shit you mean nobody’s tried that yet? If it works we’re gonna feel so dumb.

So he shared a map with open borders, then.

Well this fucking moron finally gets something right. Who’s gonna run it by MAGA?

Probably Pop Mart. A three-story shop filled with nothing but these odd little collectible toys of cartoon characters. It was absolutely mobbed.

Every house has a driveway and there’s almost always one car in the driveway an one car parked in the street out front. There is some retail that relies on street parking, but when bike lanes go in, such businesses always seem to find that it leads to more people being able to get to their businesses instead of fewer. I agree having bike-able neighborhoods doesn’t eliminate the need for cars. Heck I have a car that I hardly ever use and have off-street parking available so I recognize my car privilege, but it might reduce the need for two-car families. Or at least reduce the number of families so dependent on having both cars with immediate access to the street at all times that they couldn’t park both cars in the driveway. There’s also an elementary school along the route, a park and community center, and a little local grocery market, which would all become safely bike-able for families. It really seems like it would improve the quality of life and not be such a major inconvenience. I saw a few “We support bike lanes on Hopkins St.” in yards. It sounds more to me like a vocal minority of curmudgeons gumming up the works as usual.

Yeah, I saw that. Such infuriating stupidity.

Roll my eyes and shake my head. Probably make a snarky comment to my companion if I was with someone.

Good grief. Why would anybody want a constant stream of cars whizzing by right next to the beach?

What they’re missing is the simple fact that the more people who ride bikes, the fewer parking spots you need!
I still say we should re-brand bike lanes as “Get bikes out of the way of our wonderful precious cars lanes” and then maybe they will realize that bike lanes make driving better too.

59 parking spaces. $5.8 million. That’s kind of mind-boggling to me.
From an urbanist/anti-car perspective, it’s not a terrible location for a hotel, though. It’s like a block away from the Pearl Street Mall, one of the most successful car-to-pedestrian street conversions I’ve seen, coming up on its 50th anniversary. That could cut down on some of the car trips you’d expect a hotel to add, as visitors can go out to eat or shop without getting into the rental car.
I was wondering if the impact of the lost parking capacity was a legitimate concern, and according to the article, “Fox Tuttle Transportation Group, a consultant hired by the city, found that nearby garages have enough capacity to absorb parking demand from the hotel and loss of those spaces.” So if the hotel design doesn’t include on-site parking, I guess you unload your suitcases and then go park in a nearby garage. 🤷 At least according to the consultants it won’t be a problem.

Overall I thought it was an amusing parlor trick but when I found out how much energy it uses I want it to die in a fire and for everyone to forget it was ever invented.

It’s just basic logic.
