Person from Ontario who moved to Alberta 15 years ago here. Want to know the secret of why no one outside Alberta cares about Alberta? Because Alberta isn’t special, and the oil and gas patch isn’t special. Its a nice little windfall that will run out one day and the province has no plan B.

I’ve had to have this conversation with coworkers who complain about how no one in BC or out east care about Alberta and when I ask then if they care about automotive layoffs in Ontario, or loss of fisheries jobs on the east coast, or cost of living issues on the west coast, they outright say they don’t give a shit or they say “its different”. Its not different, Alberta isn’t the economic powerhouse of Canada that it thinks it is. Beyond that though, we have a really fucking stupid government that’s actively destroying what’s left of our education and healthcare systems, and the dumb fuck hicks outside Calgary and Edmonton do in fact eat it up hook line And sinker.
