Not something i need imagination for. Im not saying 3 years is optimal, but there does have to be a threshold somewhere. Personally i’d build it into user settings to allow users to self select a time period they accept.

Pretty sure that the gdpr specifically precludes forever retention. Data should be retained as long as is necessary and whether 1, 3, 5, 10 or however many years, sooner or later deletion is appropriate, and the timeline depends on what is reasonable.

3 years is a long time to not log in and if a court decided that it exceeded a ‘reasonable’ period for legitimate interest the fines can go to 10% of global revenue. The law encourages risk averse behaviour.

They could make a better system where the user sets the timeline but it would be impossible to predict the return.

On this one i think its probably driven by risk management not nefarious intent.

PC hardware is not vendor controlled. They can’t delete your game because sales of the sequel are low or a license agreement ran out. Buying is owning on a pc where the game can be backed up, reinstalled on new machine etc. without any need for the agreement or permission of the publisher. You bought it. Can’t do any of that on console. Cant back up to your own systems, cant copy and if the console vendor decides to withdraw it from your library and delete from your device, you cant stop them (short of never connecting the device to the internet again) Historically console physical media has had a good second hand market, no such thing without physical media.

You’ll hand your money over, own nothing and have no recourse.

And mandate they integrate with interoperability standards like activitypub etc so if they start manipulating feeds then we can just exit stage left without losing contact with people we like.

But its not age verification thats actually being implemented. It’s identity verification mislabelled to take advantage of dumb legislation with yet more privacy over reach.

Don’t think that there was ever a security hole. I wouldnt consider installing alt firmware to be a security hole

This is Sony though, they care so much about playstation customers they even went to the effort of updating the ps3 firmware in March this year to improve things for their customers.

I like the marketing and on the surface, Matrix looks like something I would be on baord with, BUT… staff and leadership track back to amdocs and thats a red flag for me. Independent code review, analysis, security audit and activity verification might change my mind but at this point I have no incentive to invest effort into verifying matrix is safe after my concern radar has pinged.
