I feel like it’s a potential grey area, but reading the article, it seems like the line was walked well. I wouldn’t want someone pulling out a “church of Satan” card outta someone’s wallet and giving the death penalty for it, but it looks like that isn’t what was going on here. This seems based on art and writings that indulge in violence and violation of consent. As with Christians,“freedom of religion” shouldn’t be used to excuse glorifying harm to others. (Even if our society often does excuse Christians. Still shouldn’t.)

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why are there so many more mtf trans vs ftm trans people??
6·17 days agoI don’t know for sure if there’s more of one than the other, but I will say that ftm folks tend to hang out in different communities than here and Reddit. I find them on tumblr and Bluesky mostly, and especially art communities. I think because those communities are pretty friendly to afab folks exploring other sexualities and expressions, so it feels safe to come out as ftm there. Those communities are generally very supportive and open, I see binder safety advice, passing tips, or just general encouragement roll onto my feed completely unsolicited, and I just follow people for art.
Took me a bit to find anything on these guys other than reposts of this same picture, I wasn’t sure they’re real. The scientific name is reported wrong in some places, it should be Panchlora kozaneki. In case anyone wants to look them up.

News@lemmy.world•Judge orders Trump administration to restore National Park changes at sites that 'disparaged' US
1·1 month agoI feel like, considering how much Trump keeps stabbing the NPS workers in the knee, at least some of them might.
They did move the National Forest Service headquarters to Utah though. And I guess they “do things differently” around there

Technology@lemmy.world•The (pseudo) theory taking the rich by storm: China funds data center hatersEnglish
6·1 month agoIt’s comforting to them. It stokes their ego. It’s a way to convince themselves that they don’t need to change. They get to deflect criticism and chill in their happy bubble where they’re perfect. Most importantly, it’s a hall pass to ignore people who are trying to get them to change. At least for a little while.
You’re forgetting our first land ancestor, the fish that decided to come up on land. By certain definitions, all land animals that descended from that ancestor are fish.
It’s an obscure biology joke. Doesn’t play into day-to-day conversations. It is the same logic that causes biologists to say that birds are dinosaurs though—because they descended from dinosaurs. But by the same logic, birds also evolved from lizards, and before that amphibians, and from before that fish, etc. This definition is more like putting all of life into nested boxes. Or perhaps it’s more like the saying “all tigers are felines, but not all felines are tigers”.
This definition is helpful for evolutionary biologists to talk about evolution at grand scale and how we might share certain genes with fish. But it’s admittedly not very helpful for day-to-day conversations that say humans are pretty distant from fish and don’t resemble them much at all now. (Though I admittedly love little biology facts like how our middle ear bones evolved from gills.)
Anyway. I get silly excited about this stuff. Random nerdy rant done.
I heard the JW’s had to hotpatch their lore. Now they just say that there are 144k leaders/elite who will be in charge of the others who get saved. The church membership got too big and the tithing, I’m guessing, was too nice to tell people they’re outta luck.
I’m a trombone fan myself
But when someone can play a good French horn to a melancholy tune, it hits right.

News@lemmy.world•Woman files lawsuit after arrest for Facebook post concerning Trinidad water supply issues
1·2 months agoI ran into this about a year ago.
The company is Matthews Environmental Services. There was a DHS convention with several companies in 2025, including the ones that sold the pop-up concentration camps. Whether or not Matthews received a contract or not, I don’t know, but they were listed on the convention site. They advertised turning biowaste into fuel—but if you look into them more you can find a YouTube video of them advertising cremation and perfect extraction of valuable medical devices and other metals from grandma’s body. It’s also worth mentioning that Curtis Yarvin promoted doing exactly this sort of thing with undesirables, and there are those who seem to venerate him even now.
I think we’d know if anything was happening at scale, but every time a detainee goes missing, I admit I do wonder.

I honestly didn’t know the worth of copper had gone up so much.
