So, this is the place where I’m going to be generally hanging out and trolling around, while my Pixelfed, Mastodon, and Blacksky accounts are going to be primarily art posting accounts, and I also have a Nooki account.

I’m also going to start to be active more on here than on lemmy.org, so I’m making this my primary Lemmy account now.

I’ll link the other socials I’m varying levels of active on below, plus my lemmy.org account which I’m demoting to my secondary account if that instance is going to be more unstable from now on.

  • Plaster would be really fun to get into playing with, but I just don’t have the space for something that messy, eg. if you soak cloths in the plaster and put them on an armature of some kind, the mess level with that is like paper mache turned up to 11, and would be just as fun to play with; but that type of thing really needs room to breathe, as it were.

  • Well, I did a huge chalk drawing on a sheet of tiling backer board for an art contest once over a decade ago and ended up looking like a smurf by the end of it.

The fact that chalk is as messy as it is is a huge part of why it’s so fun to play with, chalk is basically like dry fingerpaints, at least if you forego the blending stump.

But yeah, the biggest messes I’ve made in recent years are any time I’ve gotten my chalk out to play with basically.

Beyond that there’s playing in the mud when I was a really young kid and still living in Washington state at the time, and the countless glitter crafts and stuff I did in school growing up like pretty much everyone else in here has probably done.

PS: I hope I’m not the only one on this thread whose messes are normal, and just part of, and IMO the fun part of, making physical art or crafts in the case of my chalk art story. Like, I’ve come across some screwed-up stories on this thread and mine seem to be the most normal of the bunch.

  • The ENG field has had two battery mount standards in the form of the V-mount and the Anton Bauer Gold Mount for decades now, and both are interchangeable; you could swap a Gold Mount plate for a V-mount plate or vice-versa.

And on the consumer front, Sony’s Infolithium might as well be standardized as there’s lights which use Infolithium packs and you can buy generic battery packs in that format and still be able to power your Handycam from the mid '90s, for example.

  • An open phone standard, and no, I do not mean the ‘Open Handset Alliance’ that doesn’t even live up to its name, I mean like an ATX-equivalent standard for mobile devices.

An open-source ISA already exists in RISC-V, maybe that hypothetical ATX-for-mobile-devices standard could standardize around that for starters, as for an OS, it could standardize around non-Android Linux and maybe even some BSD mobile OSes instead of Google pulling some MS-in-the-'90s crap for Android like they’re doing right now.
