I’ve seen some really cool threads with a lot of really reasonable and interesting takes. Reminded me a lot reddit back when it was a cool place for nerds and a great resource for learning about the world. People trying to actually understand why issues are complex and where various interested parties are coming from. Good proper types of discussions and debates from educated informed adults.

However, whenever the pop up… the nut jobs come in shortly thereafter and ruin the whole thing by reporting/harassing everyone for hate speech, because to them any nuance on any issue is criminal offense in the eyes of their absolutist/extremist beliefs and they want to silence any discussion that isn’t tribalistic slogan shouting. Basically toddlers throwing a tantrum because the adult-speech and big words are scary to them.

I just wish the pitchfork nutjobs would toss off and leave reasonable and considerate people alone rather than trying to drag us down to there pathetic miserable level of seeing everything purely in a good vs evil dichotomy. Like go circle jerk yourselves and repeat your meme level politics eternally amongst yourselves, since full sentences and paragraphs are so scary to you. It’s great you need your own little special instance where you can ban everyone who doesn’t agree with your slogans, but if that’s what you want, just stay there. Stop coming into more open-minded/generalist instances and trying to make them like your fiefdom(s) of pettiness and hatred.

I have had several other incidents, none as weird as that though.

Random people assaulting me in coffee shops while I was minding my business over what I was wearing or a book I was reading. I basically stopped reading in coffee shops because of this, and it only started happening in like '22.

One time this guy went off on me and started lecturing me about how gay my boots were and how he’d be a rich pretty boy too if his mom hadn’t stolen his inheritance and been such a whore. Guy was unhinged. He came in, zeroed in on me, stood about 5 feet away and started going off on me, then just turn around and left when I didn’t acknowledge him. Nobody else said around me said or did anything, I think we were all just in shock.

you have to understand, chips are commodity items. they aren’t ‘sexy’ or marketed heavily. people don’t choose one chip brand over another based on how ‘sexy’ it is’. They mostly just don’t care as long as it works. technology is at this point is pretty much a commodity/utility for most people and most use cases apart from high end, low volume applications like PC gaming or etc.

the reason like a car manufacturer can do this is because the ‘image’ of the car is so appealing to people they will overlook how shit it is and how poorly it’s built. computer chips don’t have sex or image appeal in this way, so they really can’t afford to produce a shitty unreliable product.

consumer grade chips are already ‘low quality’ compared to the server end stuff anyway. they have cheaper tolerances and lack error correction and other features that are necessities for service-level computing. not to mention the really high end stuff you find in super computing and military/industrial hardware, etc.

blows my mind, but some people feel bad when they get downvoted, and think they did something ‘wrong’ if random weirdos on the internet don’t upvote them.

and further, they get upset and angry against people who they think downvoted them and sometimes seek revenge, talk about taking the internet way too seriously…

it’s not bait dude. it’s reality. logic is not a fixed system, it’s an active area of research in which new problems and new logical systems are being invented.

have you ever formally studied logic? if you did realize there is more than one system of logic, and they have different rules.

It’s like thinking mathematics ends with algebra 2 or calculus with calc 1.

logic isn’t a universal force or law. it’s a learned system. most people have their own internal emotional or cultural logic, that may or may not have anything to do with something like symbolic logic.
