    Religion seems to “concentrate”. A lot if people drop off, some people get more and more hardcore, which draws even more people away. In the end, there are some radicalized groups like the Pius brotherhood, and the pope is well advised to deal with them. A good religious group needs to be uniform in a way, and not a slope of occasional church/temple/whatever goers and a radicalized core group. Most important here is that the leadership is not inside this radicalized core.

    And it is completely irrelevant what that religion is based on, the pattern holds: Tele-Evangelists, Taliban, Scientology, the Mullahs in Iran, they all follow the same pattern: radical core and leadership have become identical, and control the rest of the group by means of religion.
