I’m slowly starting to believe the weak parts on SSDs are not wear and tear, but controllers glitching and dying. The two SSDs that I have lost, became goners overnight with unresponsive controller (first one lasted about 6 years, other one about 4), and few days ago a friend of mine also lost his SSD, the service told it’s the controller.

Samsung 860 and 870. Interestingly enough my very first SSD (840) is still alive. The thing is ancient and has a power on time of 1146 days.

This article is just an repost of a repost of a repost of a few questionable reports. I’m betting that a huge factor in the disk writes were that the game wants a LOT of memory (mine was using around 25GB) and people with 16GB were having their swap trashing their drive.
