Trump says US navy will ‘guide’ stranded ships out of waterway but report says warship was hit by Iran
The world’s shipping industry has questioned whether vessels will be able to travel safely to and from the Gulf after Donald Trump announced his latest plan to open the strait of Hormuz.
Trump wrote on Monday that the US navy would “guide” stranded ships out of the waterway, writing on his social media site Truth Social that the operation, “Project Freedom”, would be a humanitarian gesture “on behalf of the United States, Middle Eastern Countries but, in particular, the Country of Iran”.
But within hours Iran’s Fars news agency reported a US warship intending to pass through the strait had been hit by two missiles and turned back after ignoring an Iranian warning. The US denied its ship had been hit. Brent crude rose more than 5% a barrel to $114.45 amid reports that the United Arab Emirates was responding to a missile threat and a fire on a South Korean vessel in the Gulf.
Let trump insure them. Watch him clam up when this is mentioned.
Why would he? it would be the taxpayers paying, not him.
Could you imagine him actually suggesting using his own money? Preposterous.
The US actually does do that. The issue is that shipping companies do not actually want to risk the life of their crews.
I would have thought somebody would have offered a life chaning sum to some sailors for the journey. That is entirly possible since oil is above $100 barrel and a very large crude carrier can transport 2million barrels of oil or so. So even with a crew of 30, you can still pay everybody a million for the risk and make insane profit, since oil is nearly free inside the Gulf.
Before all this my uncle kept going on about how I should join the merchant navy, there’s great benefits and money and you get to travel the world. Tbh I’m not opposed, but I don’t even know where to start as I also live right in the middle of the US, far from any coast.
Ever since this shit has started though, he’s been real quiet about that.
