The Newfoundland and Labrador government has approved hikes in greenhouse gas emissions at a nickel mine in northern Labrador and the Cenovus-owned White Rose oilfield off the coast of St. John’s.

Cenovus estimates that its new West White Rose platform will increase emissions at the oilfield by about 21 per cent at peak operation, or an amount equivalent to about 100,000 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide, according to documents obtained through access to information legislation by The Canadian Press.

That’s roughly the same as the emissions from more than 23,300 vehicles driven for one year, according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency.

      Organize.

The reason is because it’s going to be worthless sooner or later so they need to cash in now and hope the profit will be enough to survive any negative consequences of those actions.

How?? How the fuck are we supposed to organize when we’re up to our throats in life expenses? When we literally need our job to survive?

Protesting on a Saturday afternoon to accommodate everyone won’t change a fucking thing.

I know this sounds very pessimistic, because it is, but people aren’t going to go out of their way against this. They ain’t got time.

Also, there’s an information void, especially in Québec, where people don’t watch Instagram reels and TikToks on buried political stories like these because they’re in English! So people in Québec can’t be bothered because they’re ignorant. (Except in Montréal)
