No change no pleasure no jokes no sex
No choice no morals no ethics no depth
No colour no fight no freedom no life
Profound creation, temptation is swept

I hear knocking on my door

I wonder how it’s possible
That I just sit here in my room
Watching some TV
Thinking of nothing and nothing
And I don’t know how
Does anybody have the nerve
To come to my door
And sell the world of God

I wonder what’s the remedy
And I can move on with my life
Before you people are through
With the extinction of the universe

You save the world from me
I wonder who will be left over…

Side note: it’s really fucking annoying that you can’t format text with new lines, without knowing the secret markdown. Absolutely fucking stupid. How is it useful to anyone?

either end the line with two spaces
or end it with a back slash
either one will continue your paragraph but wrap to a new line where you want

Markdown is not secret, and its whole point is to be simple to use. Human friendly.

All you had to do was invest 5 mins in a search & some reading before you got upset.
I bet your home instance even has a little primer for you.

Pro tip: I like to use code blocks for lyrics

I don’t think this is simple or human friendly at all. I cannot think of a single example of where or how this is actually useful as default behaviour. If I want all of my text on a single line, I’ll use the space bar instead of the return key. This is just dumb and anti-intuitive.

Not only do I think I shouldn’t have to research how to make new lines on a forum site, I think this shouldn’t even be a ‘feature’ in the first place. I can understand looking up the markdown for italics / bullet points / other beautification though.

    • The great thing about markdown is that it’s relatively universal. Once you learn the basics, it applies to a lot of stuff. It works in lots of messengers (though not signal, sadly) and pretty much all of the fediverse. Reddit uses it.

Plus, now that libreoffice supports it (supposedly, haven’t fiddled with it yet), it’s easy enough to format everything without needing to do more than remember a handful of the most useful tools.

It isn’t secret, there’s a ton of guides to it, from the most basic to full on instructions for even obscure tools.

Now, I will say that spoiler notation is annoying as fuck on lemmy because it parses shit weird. But it’s otherwise way faster than dicking around with on screen formatting options, usually. Spoilers are an exception to that. Fucking spoiler notations, spoiling shit.

But with line breaks vs paragraph breaks, you have to build in different notation because the enter and double enter are already in use. (Edit: Enter doesn’t do much, and I personally would prefer if it was the line break, but they didn’t ask me) So the double space+enter is an easy to use addition.

It makes more sense when you look at the full range of notation that’s already in use.
