If you’re talking about the alien in Alien^3 it’s not GCI. It’s a puppet filmed separately and composited in. It’s a creative method, but the comp is done poorly.
You can see a similar problem with the Star Wars prequels. Most of those obviously CGI sets, like Kamino, are actually miniatures with dodgy compositing.
Lucas has always been a cinema tech pioneer, but the prequel era was not his best. He was surrounded by yes men and many of his bad choices were unchecked.
IIRC The Phantom Menace (and maybe the rest of the trilogy) was mastered in 1080, what people think of as TV resolution these days.
