I have it working without issue just via steam now. Deleting the game and enabling “proton experimental” in the games comparability settings downloaded the modern game. On start, it opened a browser tab and had me link my steam/epic accounts, and bobs your uncle.

I have heroic launcher installed for gog/epic, but its not involved with this. Its good to know there is an alternative install path possible if I need it.

Interesting, I must be misinformed, someone told me it only worked on heroic with the anticheat etc. And that the linux build is “preventing” to get the modern windows build on linux.

I will try again on steam. Also I noticed my controller driver is loaded by steam… So it works only if I have steam up and running anyway.

There is a “steam-devices” linux package I need to look into…

Anyway, thanks for the feedback !

Yeah, they are correct. Steam works fine, you just need to set the compatibility to Proton in RL settings in Steam. Then it will download the Windows version of the game. You can do so before installing, even, I believe, so it will install the correct version right away.

I’ve been playing like this for years now. Great not to have to boot into Windows. 😌
