  • One day sourdough is not sour, and still easier than using commercial yeast. When I’m making sandwich bread I do it in a condensed timeline and the starter just works like a more robust version of yeast. You don’t have to make “the sourdough” as my kids call it (they ask for it because they like it but I do understand y’all’s preference.)

I use my starter to make bread, cinnamon rolls, donuts, once a puff pastry that was so annoying to make but maybe the best thing I’ve ever tasted. I just don’t buy yeast anymore.

  • Elvis Costello Welcome to the Working Week

Pink Floyd Another brick in the wall

    Evanescence Bring me to life

    A dance version:

Belle and Sebastian The Party Line

Scissor Sisters I don’t feel like dancing

Wham! Wake me up before you go go

ETA, if you are desperate, use the song the Feds did to try to drive the cultists out at Waco TX:

    Achey Breaky Heart

    Achey Breaky Heart

    Achey Breaky Heart

My favorite song to gently wake up is Hammock, Ten Thousand Years Won’t Save Your Life - but the reason it’s so good is because it is good to hear while I am sleeping, so not a good alarm. But so nice to hear while laying in bed.

  • Oh that’s hard. I hate, hate, hate those mixes. Would do bone broth for some meals, fruit and yogurt smoothies for others, and definitely throw some nut butter (cashew, almond, whatever) into the smoothie.

Date shakes are good, lots of sugar but fiber and nutrition.

And if you can tolerate soup - a can of cannelini beans, a can of butternut squash puree, and some chicken or vegetable broth, with salt and whatever else you want, is so easy, delicious and again does have fiber. Just heat them together then blend with a stick blender.

  • Popeyes is great where I live. Popeyes or Publix, I don’t even bother making fried chicken and I make 90% of what we eat from ingredients, including bread. Fried chicken benefits from standardization - Popeyes and Publix are huge and can get chicken pieces that always weigh the same, can keep the oil at a specific temp, I can’t do that.

I like both better than the “real” fried chicken I can do at home. Popeyes has the edge IF the spicy is available. What I am mad about is the discontinued onion rings they were amazing.

  • Yes I am wroth with them. The assistant app works for everything I actually want to do with the stuff in my house. I don’t want to have a conversation with my speaker, I just want it to play music. I want the tablet thing in the kitchen to show me the cute weather frog, and set timers when I ask it to. Google assistant handles that, in English or Spanish, has good voice recognition and consistent results.

Gemini is both too smart and too dumb.

I am just going to give up voice commands, honestly. Can set a timer on the kitchen thing using my phone, send music to the speakers same way, hopefully never activate the freaking AI.

  • Absolutely for the taste. I don’t bother with alcoholic drinks unless they are delicious. Water is a lovely accompaniment to any food. But yes a wine that aligns with the food can make both more than the sum of the parts, and liquors can make cocktails amazing & complex tasting instead of just being fruit punch or soda.

I do like a light buzz for a short time -any more than that I don’t enjoy.
